In October 2016 Association Business Information and Consulting Center – Sandanski started the implementation of project “Improving competitiveness of SMEs of the CB region by fostering and promotion of non-technological innovations (INNOFOSTER)”. The project has been implemented in partnership with Association Center for development and promotion PROMO IDEA of Strumitsa, Macedonia.

It aims to to strengthen business links on a cross-border level between SMEs and business support organisations (BSOs) from Bulgaria and Macedonia. Project implementation will facilitate access to new and innovative practices and processes thus enhancing potential for business growth. A detailed analysis which will be conducted in the initial stages of project implementation will determine the factors that favour or hinder the development of non-technological innovations at SMEs in the cross-border region.
A variety of networking events will lay the foundations for the establishment of a Cross-border Network for promotion and development of non-technological innovations in the SMEs from the cross-border area. The established direct contact during those events will facilitate cooperation between SMEs, R&D, educational / training institutions and BSOs in the field of innovative approaches.
In order to increase regional SMEs innovation capacities and knowledge a capacity building programme (CBP) for fostering implementation and adoption of non-technological innovations in the SMEs from the cross-border region will be implemented within the project timeframe. The CBP will be comprised of eight joint capacity building workshops – four in Bulgaria and four in Macedonia.
An innovation support and promotion portal (InnoRegion) will be developed and promoted in order to feed and update SMEs with information, promotes non-technological innovations in the SMEs and helps matchmaking between the right buyers outside the CB region and right suppliers from the CB region.
As part of the project’s extensive and diverse work programme an online e-learning programme “Virtual Learning Academy (VLA)” will be developed and tailored to needs of SMEs from innovative/higher added-value industries, including those with high innovation potential identified in the smart specialization strategies of both countries. All those activities will contribute for supporting the longer term survival of companies which depends on their continued innovation and sustaining competitive advantage.
